St. John's ICARE Foundation to honor surgeon at annual Blue Phoenix Gala

St. John’s ICARE Foundation has announced that Dr. Sheldon H. Genack will be honored at the second annual Blue Phoenix Gala on June 5 at the Garden City Hotel in Far Rockaway, New York. Dr. Genack, Chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, will receive the inaugural CEO Distinguished Service Award.

The award will be presented by Dr. Donald T. Morrish, Chief Executive Officer at Episcopal Health Services, to acknowledge Dr. Genack's dedication and long service to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.

“During his 30-year tenure at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, Dr. Genack has left an indelible mark on our health system," said Dr. Morrish. "We are proud to honor him at this year’s Blue Phoenix Gala for his dedication to expanding access and delivering exceptional patient-centered care to the Far Rockaway and Five Towns communities.”

Dr. Genack is a fellowship-trained specialist in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, holding leadership roles since 1995 as Division Chief of these specialties and becoming Chairman of Surgery in 2021.

His contributions include enhancing surgical care capabilities by recruiting surgeons in various specialties such as vascular, colorectal, plastic, and orthopedic surgery.

Beyond clinical roles, Dr. Genack has been part of the Medical Executive Committee and involved in educating residents and medical students.

Dr. Genack graduated with honors from SUNY Upstate Medical University and completed his General Surgery internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, followed by a residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. He furthered his training with fellowships in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at institutions including the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center.

The Blue Phoenix Gala supports St. John’s ICARE Foundation's mission to secure resources for Episcopal Health Services/St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.
