In his tweet, he remarked: "Revoking federal grants to Columbia University isn't about combating anti-Semitism; it's about the Trump administration's war on education and science."

Continuing with this theme into the next day on March 8, 2025, Espaillat reiterated his position regarding Columbia University's situation in another post made jointly with Representative Jerry Nadler. He emphasized once more that the revocation of funds was not truly about addressing anti-Semitism but rather part of an ongoing campaign against educational institutions by Trump's government: "La revocación de las subvenciones federales a la Universidad de Columbia no tiene que ver con la lucha contra el antisemitismo..."
