Long Island Community Hospital has officially joined NYU Langone Health, becoming NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk. This marks the seventh inpatient facility for the top-ranked health system, which is known for its quality and safety standards. The hospital's affiliation with NYU Langone began in March 2022, leading to significant improvements in services and patient outcomes.
Robert I. Grossman, MD, CEO of NYU Langone Health and dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine, stated, “Since affiliating with NYU Langone three years ago, our newest hospital has made incredible strides in quality and safety to better serve patients in Suffolk County.” He expressed gratitude to colleagues from both Long Island Community Hospital and NYU Langone for their efforts in completing the merger.
The hospital has seen a notable increase in surgical cases and operating room procedures by more than 50 percent. Additionally, there have been reductions in length of stay and hospital-acquired conditions by 25 percent. The emergency department's provider wait time decreased by nearly 70 percent. Infusion services introduced for cancer patients and those with neurological diseases have led to 4,000 new visits since May 2023.
Marc S. Adler, MD, senior vice president and chief of hospital operations at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk said, “Thanks to a significant investment and support from the entire health system—as well as the longtime generosity of philanthropic partners like the Knapp family—the range and quality of services offered in and around Patchogue have grown exponentially.”
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand commented on the merger's significance: “The merger of these two incredible organizations is a critical moment for the future of healthcare on Long Island.” Congressman Andrew Garbarino (NY-02) added that it represents "a direct investment in our communities."
State Senator Dean Murray congratulated NYU Langone Health on integrating another facility into their network: “This milestone is a testament to NYU Langone’s unwavering commitment to providing outstanding healthcare services to our community.” State Assemblyman Joseph DeStefano noted that combining these healthcare organizations benefits both patients and the community.
NYU Langone has invested heavily in improving infrastructure and technology at the hospital. A new ambulatory surgery center is under construction on Patchogue’s Main Street, expected to open in 2026. It will feature six operating rooms and four procedure rooms.
NYU Langone Health continues its focus on achieving excellent patient outcomes through rigorous quality standards. Vizient Inc. ranked it as the No. 1 comprehensive academic medical center nationwide for three consecutive years. U.S. News & World Report placed nine clinical specialties among the top five nationally.
With $14.2 billion in revenue this year, NYU Langone includes two tuition-free medical schools located in Manhattan and Long Island along with an extensive research enterprise supported by over $1 billion from the National Institutes of Health.
