The following day, March 4, 2025, Espaillat announced his decision to bring Octavio Blanco as his guest for Donald Trump’s Joint Address. He highlighted Blanco's situation by saying, "I am proud to bring Octavio Blanco as my guest for Donald Trump’s Joint Address. A victim of Musk’s DOGE, Octavio was a dedicated employee at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), fired from public service for no reason. This is no way public service should conclude."
Later that day, he reiterated this sentiment in Spanish: "Estoy orgulloso de tener a Octavio Blanco como mi invitado al discurso de Donald Trump ante el pleno de Congreso.
