Rep. Nydia Velázquez, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 7th district since 1993, expressed her concerns through a series of tweets regarding recent developments in financial and governmental matters.

On February 1, 2025, Velázquez criticized the firing of Rohit Chopra, emphasizing his efforts for working families by addressing issues like junk fees, medical debt, and predatory lending. She stated that "His firing is a blatant giveaway to Trump's Wall Street and Big Tech billionaire buddies. The CFPB should protect the people, not the powerful."

On February 3, 2025, Velázquez voiced her disapproval of Elon Musk's potential involvement with $6 trillion in Treasury payments. She asserted that "It's unquestionable that Elon Musk, an unelected billionaire, shouldn't be allowed anywhere near $6 TRILLION in Treasury payments. Social Security, Medicare, and more are at stake." She labeled it as "an illegal power grab."

Continuing her advocacy on February 4, 2025, Velázquez participated in a rally outside the Treasury Department to oppose what she described as Elon Musk's government takeover. She remarked that "Government doesn't belong to billionaires; it belongs to the PEOPLE."
