Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), an academic medical center specializing in musculoskeletal health, has received a $7.5 million donation from The Kapnick Foundation. This contribution will support the development of a new orthopedic surgical center in Naples, Florida, as part of HSS's collaboration with Naples Comprehensive Health (NCH) to enhance orthopedic care in Southwest Florida.
In November 2023, NCH began construction on the Patty & Jay Baker Pavilion, a 100,000-square-foot facility at the NCH North Naples Hospital campus. The pavilion will provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient musculoskeletal services and feature imaging, rehabilitation facilities, and The Kapnick Foundation Ambulatory Surgical Center. Contributions from The Kapnick Foundation and other donors are facilitating this project, which is expected to open in March 2025.
The Kapnick Foundation has long supported institutions focused on community improvement. "Naples is a special community," said Scott Kapnick of HSS Board of Trustees. "Kathleen and I are excited to help make the vision of providing greater access to best-in-class musculoskeletal care a reality for those in Southwest Florida."
Bryan T. Kelly, MD, MBA, HSS President and CEO stated: “We are thrilled to receive this generous commitment from The Kapnick Foundation to advance our goal of bringing the best in orthopedics—practices, surgeons and physicians, and patient experience—to people in Southwest Florida.”
All donations supporting the Baker Pavilion are matched by a $20 million grant pledged by Jay Baker and his wife Patty Baker. “This transformative donation is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our community,” said Jay Baker.
Paul Hiltz, NCH President and CEO commented: “NCH and HSS are aligned in our commitment to elevating the standard of orthopedic care as a whole.”
NCH is recognized among top hospitals nationwide by Healthgrades and Money Magazine for its cardiac care achievements.
