The Juilliard School in New York is set to hold its annual Earth Month celebrations from April 16 to 30, focusing on the link between humanity and the environment through artistic expression. Juilliard's student-led Green Club, in partnership with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, will host a multi-genre Earth Day concert at the David Rubenstein Atrium. The concert will feature students from various divisions of music, dance, and drama, and pose the question, "What does our collective future look like in the face of a changing climate?"
Juilliard's ongoing collaboration with the Redhawk Native American Arts Council will be highlighted in a public dance workshop on Lincoln Center’s Hearst Plaza, inviting audiences to explore the earth through indigenous heritage. Juilliard Station will host three interdisciplinary performances, including "The Voice of the Whale," which merges dramatic readings with music by George Crumb. The school also continues with other green initiatives, such as a clothing swap and workshops for Dance students.
Creative programming during Earth Month includes Ellen Reid's SOUNDWALK, a sound art installation accessed via a GPS-enabled app. Juilliard commissioned a new version at Lincoln Center that links to existing installations in Central Park, featuring music by Ellen Reid and archival recordings from Juilliard performances.
All public events are free and aim to immerse attendees in artistic interpretations of environmental themes. Juilliard, a leader in performing arts education, continues to support interdisciplinary opportunities for its students, aligning with its values of excellence, creativity, and diversity.
