Crain's New York has reported that the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is set to expand its operations in Florida. This move aims to capture a larger share of the market in one of the country's fastest-growing states. HSS will partner with the University of Miami Health System to establish a musculoskeletal program at the university’s new hospital located in North Miami.

The facility, named UHealth SoLé Mia, will be part of a 184-acre mixed-use development near Bal Harbor. It is anticipated to become the largest ambulatory facility in the area upon its opening later this year. HSS and the University of Miami will jointly lead an orthopedic program that will provide physician practices, outpatient surgery, imaging, and rehabilitation services.

Tara McCoy, chief executive officer at HSS Florida, stated that "while University of Miami doctors will provide direct patient care," HSS "will help recruit physicians, including from its extensive network of alumni trained at its facilities." The program is also expected to incorporate several surgical protocols refined by HSS in joint replacement and sports medicine.
