Patients and their families at Maimonides Cancer Center in Brooklyn, New York, gathered on December 19 to celebrate the holiday season. The event marked the 13th year of this annual tradition at Maimonides Children’s Hospital. Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities including a photo booth, face painting, and entertainment by Looney Louie the clown. Sixth- and seventh-grade Girl Scouts from Dyker Heights and Gravesend served food such as chicken nuggets, French fries, pizza, and cupcakes.
In preparation for the event, patients submitted holiday wish lists with items valued up to $100. These wishes were fulfilled through donations by Maimonides Health staff members who provided toys and gifts. During the celebration, Santa distributed these gifts to the children. Additional toys were donated by Toys for Hospitalized Children for children to choose from.
Dr. Ludovico Guarini, MD, Chief of Pediatric Hematology & Oncology at Maimonides Health commented on the importance of the event: “Our holiday party serves as a true example of the family-centered care we provide,” he said. “Patients and their families are at the heart of the celebration.”
Shari Feinberg, Nurse Practitioner and Team Leader of the Hematology/Oncology Team at Maimonides Health highlighted community involvement: “This holiday party would not have been possible without the generosity of the Girl Scouts...and Maimonides Health clinical staff," she stated.
The event emphasized support beyond medical care for young patients and their families during challenging times.
