Lindsey Vonn, a retired ski racer, underwent a partial knee replacement last April. This surgery initially appeared to be the conclusion of her remarkable career. Having retired from competitive skiing over five years ago and after enduring multiple injuries, the procedure seemed like a natural end.

However, rather than ending her time on the slopes, the surgery has opened a new chapter for Vonn. She is now preparing to compete in World Cup Super G races in St. Moritz, Switzerland at the age of 40.

Dr. Martin W. Roche, a knee surgeon and director of arthroplasty at HSS Florida, performed the partial reconstruction with robotic assistance. He resurfaced the most damaged areas on the outside of Vonn's knee using titanium alloys and polyethylene components. These replacement parts were custom positioned based on medical imaging of her knee joint.
