Maimonides Health recently hosted its 9th Annual Community for Kids Benefit, successfully raising over $200,000. The funds will support the hospital's pediatric trauma center and the upcoming expansion of its pediatric emergency department, scheduled to open in 2025. This development will increase the current emergency room space fivefold.
Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health, emphasized the importance of this expansion. "For 30 years, we’ve been here for the children of Brooklyn," he stated. He noted that in recent years, more than 8,000 children have received care at their pediatric trauma center. Gibbs highlighted that trauma is a leading cause of death among those under 18 and pointed out that dedicated pediatric trauma centers improve survival rates by about 25%. He expressed gratitude towards supporters for their role in enhancing services for Brooklyn's growing population.
The event recognized several individuals for their contributions to the Children's Hospital's mission. Honorees included Camille & Stefano Filippazzo on behalf of the Anthony J. Filippazzo Fund for Williams Syndrome Research & Advancement, Michael Brincat from Maimonides Health, and Nick Iacoviello from MVS Heating and Air Conditioning Corp.
