St. John's University has joined two prominent artificial intelligence organizations, the AI Alliance and the American Association of Colleges and Universities’ Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum. The university's involvement in these groups highlights its commitment to advancing AI education and innovation.

The AI Alliance, launched by IBM and Meta in December 2023 with over 50 founding members, is an invitation-only group focusing on open innovation in AI technology. It aims to enhance foundational capabilities, safety, security, and trust in AI while maximizing societal benefits. Fazel Keshtkar, Ph.D., Associate Professor at St. John's University, stated that their membership aligns with IBM's mission to build transformative educational tools that empower students and educators.

Additionally, St. John's is one of 124 higher education institutions selected for the Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum. This online institute assists academic institutions in addressing challenges posed by AI in courses and curricula. It encourages rethinking pedagogical approaches and adopting new policies related to academic integrity while considering ethical implications of AI use.

The institute will host monthly meetings and webinars throughout the academic year for member interaction. Each campus team will have a coach from the institute’s faculty to connect them with expertise as needed.

Simon G. Møller, Ph.D., Provost at St. John’s University expressed enthusiasm for embracing AI innovation both inside and outside the classroom to enhance student learning opportunities.
