New York, NY – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) requested $643,600 in the Fiscal Year 2024 budget for the Makor Residential Accessibility Modification Project to upgrade the facilities needed to support the growing needs of Makor’s current and future residents. This project will include accessibility, energy-efficiency, beautification, and health and safety upgrades to provide better accommodations for individuals with special needs and disabilities.
“All New Yorkers deserve housing that meets their needs, and accessibility is the first step to providing every individual with the opportunity to thrive,” Congressman Goldman said. “These renovations will ensure that residents at Makor’s facilities, now and in the future, are able to live fulfilling and enriching lives. I am proud to support Makor in their mission to ensure all New Yorkers have the support and resources they need.”
Makor Care and Services Network Chief Operating Officer Tzally Seewald said, “Here at Makor we are elated to be one of the fifteen projects considered for the Community Project Funding Request. If selected, the funds would greatly support the growing needs of Makor’s most physically vulnerable residents. On behalf of our entire organization, we are grateful to Congressman Goldman for his dedication and advocacy for our Special needs and Disabilities population.”
The requested funds will be used to make upgrades and repairs both inside and outside of Makor’s facilities. The outdoor space will be renovated to accommodate residents with varying disabilities, including residents who use a wheelchair. The indoor renovations will include improving bathroom accessibility, kitchen updates, and installing new fire-rated emergency doors.
Founded in 1978, the Makor Care and Services Network provides services to address a broad spectrum of need, including residential programs, early intervention programs for children with disabilities, and disability evaluations. They also offer college experiences and employment opportunities for adults with disabilities.
