St. John’s University hosted its first undergraduate Fall Open House of 2024 on October 27, welcoming nearly 900 prospective students and their families to its Queens, NY campus. The event coincided with the University's "StormFest," a weekend-long celebration that also included Family Weekend and Alumni Homecoming.

Visitors were greeted at Taffner Field House, where they walked a red carpet and posed for photos with the university mascot, Johnny Thunderbird. The theme for the event was “It’s Time to Discover St. John’s.”

The open house provided an opportunity for attendees to explore the campus, including tours of each of St. John’s six Schools and Colleges, dining facilities, residence halls, and various specialized centers such as the St. Vincent Health Sciences Center. Ms. Wright highlighted this new facility's role in providing health sciences students with cutting-edge technology for healthcare education.

Prospective students from across the East Coast attended the event to learn about St. John's offerings. At the Student Services Fair inside Taffner Field House, representatives from various majors and programs engaged with attendees.

Tim O’Connor from Oceanside, NY expressed interest in staying local for college and considering a Business major at St. John's due to family ties to the institution. Nicollette Yost from Staten Island was drawn to the health sciences center due to her interest in radiologic sciences.

Alyssa Sehn from New Hyde Park shared her aspiration to major in English after developing a passion for creative writing in high school. Zuleyka Oquendo from the Bronx explored Cyber Security Systems as a potential major after receiving positive feedback about St. John's from current students.

The open house allowed future students like Alyssa Sehn to engage directly with faculty and staff while exploring potential academic paths at St. John's University.
