The annual award event on March 20 at Terrace on the Park in Queens celebrated individuals of Caribbean origin for their significant contributions across various fields, including healthcare, arts, and entrepreneurship. Among the honorees was Dr. Fabienne Gaillard Ulysse, a nursing leader at Maimonides.

Dr. Ulysse holds roles as an adjunct assistant clinical professor at Long Island University and New York City College of Technology Schools of Nursing. She is also a board-certified nurse practitioner in adult health and an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner. Her educational journey includes a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Columbia University School of Nursing. She has been recognized with awards such as the Advanced Practice Nursing Scholarship from the Oncology Nursing Society and the Doctor of Nursing Practice Award from Columbia University. In 2024, she became a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.

Dr. Ulysse is deeply committed to her Caribbean roots and to improving healthcare access for Haitian communities in Brooklyn and beyond. She founded and presides over Compassionate Health Ministries (COHEMI), a nonprofit providing essential healthcare and education to impoverished communities in the U.S. and Haiti. This initiative was inspired by her volunteering efforts following the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

"My work as a nurse and health care leader has always been about helping others, especially those who lack appropriate care, resources, and basic needs," stated Dr. Ulysse. "This award is a great honor because it is an opportunity not only to represent my Haitian heritage and its impact on my successes but also my efforts to help Caribbean communities both here in Brooklyn and in Haiti."
