As the world faced a global shutdown five years ago, the Juilliard community acted swiftly to ensure student safety. Despite being physically dispersed worldwide, learning and practice continued at pace.

The institution saw an unprecedented number of students engaging in secondary Historical Performance instrument studies. Conducting students created videos where they silently conducted an excerpt from a Haydn concerto, after which 12 instrumentalists recorded their parts based solely on these cues.

The community maintained its cohesion through remote lessons and classes, virtual game nights, and synchronized Zoom performances.
