The School of Education at St. John’s University has announced the Summer Leadership Institute, aimed at equipping educational leaders with essential skills and strategies to navigate the complexities of today's educational environment. The institute, themed “Leadership That Connects: Leading in Today’s Challenging Times,” is scheduled for July 14 and 15 at the university's Queens, NY campus.

The event is designed for superintendents, assistant superintendents, district leaders, and principals. It offers a platform to network, share insights, and develop actionable strategies to create lasting impacts in schools and communities. Participants will engage in keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions that focus on enhancing leadership communication.

Key topics include instructional leadership, teacher recruitment and retention, self-care, prosocial leadership, and support for English Language Learners and their families. These discussions will be led by both local and nationally recognized educators and authors.

Two keynote speakers are set to feature prominently. Julia Mahfouz, Ph.D., Associate Professor in Leadership for Educational Organizations at the University of Colorado Denver will address “Beyond Exhaustion: Understanding and Overcoming Burnout in K-12 Leadership.” Peter DeWitt, Ed.D., Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Instructional Leadership Collective will discuss “Creating Communities of Trust.”

An additional panel spotlight titled "Current Legal Issues Facing School Districts" will feature school district attorneys from Ingerman Smith LLP.

The institute also promises networking opportunities through a dinner reception designed to foster meaningful connections among educational leaders. Attendees can earn 15 CTLE hours along with digital badges upon completion of the program.

St. John’s University emphasizes its commitment to preparing future educators through innovative programs and strong community partnerships as part of its mission within The School of Education.
