Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso has appointed Mike Racioppo, District Manager of Brooklyn Community Board 6 (CB6), to the New York City Council’s Charter Review Commission. Racioppo, who was born and raised in Brooklyn, brings over a decade of experience in government and public policy. His previous roles include Chief of Staff at the New York City Council and New York State Assembly, as well as teaching Political Science at Brooklyn College.

Racioppo became District Manager in 2018 after serving as a member and Vice Chair of Brooklyn CB6. He is known for his commitment to transparency and community collaboration on planning initiatives such as the Gowanus Neighborhood Rezoning and City of Yes. Between 2018 and 2021, he sent out a daily newsletter for 800 consecutive weekdays. In 2024, his community district was reported by The New York Times as the happiest in New York City.

“Mike Racioppo loves this city, understands how it works, and knows how to make it better. He’s the right person for one of the most important jobs: amending the governing document of the greatest city in the world,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. “As an appointee to the Charter Review Commission, he will bring to the table his expertise on comprehensive planning and community board reform – two priorities we share. I am confident he will serve with open ears and the best interests of Brooklynites in mind. I thank Mike Racioppo for his service and Speaker Adrienne Adams for spearheading this effort at such a pivotal moment for our city and nation.”

The Commission will consist of 17 members; nine appointed by the Speaker, while the Mayor, Public Advocate, Comptroller, and five Borough Presidents appoint one each. As an appointee, Racioppo will work with other commission members to review the City Charter and propose amendments for voter consideration.

“Thank you to Borough President Reynoso for appointing me. Being appointed by the president of the best borough makes it even more of an honor for a lifelong Brooklynite such as myself. I look forward to working with the other members of the Commission to enhance the Charter and improve how government works and plans,” said City Council Charter Review Commission Appointee Mike Racioppo.
