Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) has opened two new facilities in Northern New Jersey, enhancing access to specialized musculoskeletal care in the region. The new sites include HSS Paramus – Midland Ave, a full-service outpatient center in Paramus, and the HSS Northern NJ Surgery Center in Mahwah, the first HSS center dedicated to ambulatory procedures in New Jersey.

"HSS has led the fields of orthopedics and rheumatology in quality and patient experience for 161 years," noted Bryan T. Kelly, MD, MBA, President and CEO of HSS. He emphasized that the new facilities represent more than simple expansions. "They reflect our commitment to serving communities by expanding care through innovation and strategic growth across the tri-state region and beyond."

The Mahwah surgery center, located at 400 Franklin Turnpike, is 10 miles from the Paramus site and provides specialized care for a range of conditions including those affecting the hip, knee, spine, foot and ankle, and more. Michael P. Ast, MD, serves as the Medical Director of the facility. Dr. Ast highlighted the center’s advanced technologies, which allow for complex procedures traditionally seen in hospitals. "By expanding access in New Jersey, more patients can receive timely outpatient procedures, reducing wait times, hospital burdens, and the need to travel into New York City," he explained.

HSS Paramus – Midland Ave boasts 23 exam rooms and a staff specialized in several areas, including pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine. The nearly 31,000-square-foot facility, doubling the size of the existing Paramus location at Ridgewood Ave, also features a state-of-the-art imaging suite.
