Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso has initiated the 2024 application period for residents to join the borough's community boards. The outreach campaign, named "Your Brooklyn," aims to attract diverse applicants by emphasizing issues such as housing, street safety, and public projects. Applications are open until February 7, 2025.

Borough President Reynoso emphasized the importance of diversity on community boards: “When community boards reflect the people they represent and are equipped with a full suite of information, expertise, and resources, they become a true venue for community power.” He noted recent considerations by boards on policies like City of Yes and expressed hope for increased applications from underrepresented groups including renters and young people.

Reynoso is committed to ensuring that community boards are fully funded and resourced. As part of this effort, he has redirected resources towards their operational training and support.

Community boards serve as grassroots government bodies in Brooklyn’s 18 districts. They collaborate with city agencies and local leaders on matters ranging from housing development to public services. Meetings occur monthly from September through June at accessible locations within each district.

Eligibility to join a board requires residency or significant interest in a district. Applicants must fill out an application followed by a virtual conversation with Reynoso's team before final decisions are made.

Interested individuals can apply online until February 7, 2025.
