The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has awarded the Cardiothoracic ICU and Surgical ICU at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, with a Silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence. This award acknowledges units that have successfully improved outcomes and aligned practices with AACN’s Healthy Work Environment Standards.
AACN President Jennifer Adamski praised the dedication of caregivers at Maimonides Medical Center, noting their achievement in meeting the high standards required for the Silver-level designation. She stated, “The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes caregivers in outstanding units whose consistent and systematic approach to evidence-based care optimizes patient outcomes. Units that receive this national recognition serve as role models to others on their journey to excellent patient and family care.”
Cody Legler, Chief Nursing Officer at Maimonides Health, expressed pride in receiving the Silver-level designation. He commented, “The Beacon Award is a testament to our nursing achievements spanning team and leadership engagement, safety, and patient outcomes, and above all, it reflects our nursing teams’ dedication to excellence and continuous improvement in patient care.”
The Beacon Award for Excellence was established in 2003 to guide exceptional care through improved outcomes and greater overall patient satisfaction. It is open to U.S. and Canadian units where patients receive principal nursing care after hospital admission.
