Deacon Scott J. Conway, an alumnus of St. John’s University, will be honored at the 14th Annual Leaders in Education Award Dinner (LEAD) on April 10. The event will take place at the D’Angelo Center on St. John’s University’s Queens campus.

Conway expressed his gratitude for receiving the award, saying, "I am truly humbled and honored to receive the Leaders in Education Award from St. John’s University." He credits various influences and opportunities throughout his life as significant factors in his journey, emphasizing the role of faith and community support.

Currently serving as Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of St. Augustine in Florida, Conway has been in this position for a decade. He highlights his focus on both academic excellence and maintaining Catholic identity within schools under his supervision. "There is no greater joy that comes to my heart in my career as superintendent than seeing students who truly know that Jesus is alive," he stated.

Reflecting on his education at St. John’s University, Conway noted its impact on his career path: "I would not be where I am today without the education I received from St. John’s University." He mentioned several professors who significantly influenced him during his studies, including Rev. Richard J. Devine, C.M., Rev. Robert E. Lauder, Ph.D., and Rev. Thomas Caserta.

Conway also acknowledged Jerold Ross, Ph.D., former Dean of The School of Education at St. John's, for helping him transition into educational leadership despite having a background primarily in philosophy and theology.

As he prepares to receive this honor, Conway shared advice with future alumni: "As educators, we stand on the shoulders of giants... Each of us who enters this profession may never see the impact of our work."

The award dinner aims to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to education and exemplify leadership qualities aligned with the values of The School of Education at St. John's University.
