The Fusion Film Festival, organized by NYU Tisch School of the Arts, will take place from March 12-15, 2025. This event celebrates women and nonbinary creators in film, TV, and new media. It includes panels on networking and nonfiction filmmaking as well as awards for filmmaking and writing across fourteen categories.
The festival will commence with a luncheon on March 12 honoring Caryn Coleman with the Fusion Industry Visionary Award. The event will feature screenings of new films, master classes, and the debut of Shuchi Talati’s feature film "Girls Will Be Girls." The festival concludes with a screening of finalists' works and an awards ceremony.
“Fusion delivers a community of support and inspiration for young filmmakers that is hard to find anywhere else,” said Abigail Sun, co-director of the festival. Co-director Shreeya Jayabharathi announced a showcase event in Los Angeles on April 9 at CAA in collaboration with NYU/LA to connect competition winners with industry leaders.
Sound designer Cecelia Hall will be honored with the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions over more than three decades in the film industry. In 1991, she won an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing for "The Hunt for Red October."
Caryn Coleman is recognized as the founder and executive director of Future of Film Is Female. Her organization supports gender and racial equity in the film industry by promoting women and non-binary filmmakers.
Shuchi Talati receives recognition as the Woman of the Year at this year's festival. Known for exploring South Asian identity through her work, Talati's "Girls Will Be Girls" premiered at Sundance Film Festival where it won an Audience Award.
Susan Sandler, faculty advisor to Fusion Film Festival remarked: “In our 23rd year, Fusion is strengthening the entertainment industry in all directions by supporting young artists.”
Scheduled events include masterclasses with Cecelia Hall and Caryn Coleman along with panel discussions featuring various organizations aimed at building networks after graduation. Screenings are free to attend but require RSVP.
Sponsors include Canon, Final Draft, AVID, Adobe among others. More information can be found on their website www.fusionfilmfestival.com.
