NEW YORK—Juilliard alum Jessie Montgomery, a composer, violinist, and educator, has commenced her residency at Juilliard this winter. In her role as an Arnhold Creative Associate, which she began in 2024, Montgomery will mentor composition and chamber music students at both college and preparatory levels. This initiative allows students to engage with one of today's leading artists.

The residency includes various events such as The New Series annual composer spotlight and a concert at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. Collaborations involve fellow Creative Associates Matthew Aucoin and Caroline Shaw. A unique performance titled Who’s in the Lobby? will feature Juilliard musicians performing new works by Juilliard composers.

On February 12, The New Series: Composer Spotlight will present Juilliard students performing chamber pieces composed by Montgomery from 2008 to 2024. The program includes "Peace for clarinet and piano," written for faculty member Anthony McGill during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, along with the New York premiere of "Concerto Grosso." Prior to this event, Montgomery will conduct coaching sessions for student performers.

Montgomery will also join David Serkin Ludwig for a preconcert talk on February 12 at 6:30 pm. Both the talk and performance will be livestreamed on juilliard.edu/calendar via Juilliard LIVE.

On March 24, Juilliard begins its latest partnership with Carnegie Hall through "Juilliard at Zankel Hall: Premieres and New Works." This event features compositions by Montgomery, Aucoin, and Shaw performed by Juilliard students. It marks the first of three collaborations with Carnegie Hall in 2025.

Juilliard's creative enterprise programming is supported by Jody and John Arnhold. The school continues to offer education across dance, drama, and music disciplines while maintaining global outreach through programs like The Tianjin Juilliard School in China.
