Dr. John Marshall, Chief Medical Officer at Maimonides Health, has been recognized in City & State's '50 Over 50' awards. This accolade highlights individuals from various sectors in the New York metro area who have significantly contributed to the city's betterment. Dr. Marshall was featured in the January 27 issue of City & State Magazine and received his award during a reception on January 30 at 3 West Club in Manhattan.
Dr. Marshall, board-certified in Emergency Medicine, joined Maimonides in 2002 as an attending physician. He later served as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine for 12 years before becoming CMO. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in establishing Maimonides as Brooklyn's only certified Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center and expanded EMS services into New York City's largest hospital-based ambulance service participating in 911 calls. He also directed the hospital's medical operations response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As CMO, Dr. Marshall provides strategic direction for clinical services and patient safety initiatives. Recently, he led the creation of the Maimonides Bay Ridge Emergency Department and is involved in efforts to transform emergency care in Southern Brooklyn.
“I’m honored to be among the many notable individuals honored by City & State this year,” said Dr. Marshall. “To be able to be part of Maimonides’ mission, in a role where I am able to work each day to bring the best care to all those who need it in our community, is something I’m very grateful for.”
Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health, praised Dr. Marshall: “Dr. Marshall is a standout clinical leader in the medical field here in New York, and I congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition,” said Gibbs. “We are consistently grateful for the more than two decades he has devoted to our patients here in Brooklyn, even in our most difficult times, and for his great leadership, especially as we continue on our path to revitalize and expand access to specialty care in Southern Brooklyn.”
