Maimonides Health has opened a new Comprehensive Weight Management Center in Brooklyn, offering assistance to individuals seeking to manage their weight. The center provides various options for those dealing with obesity or related health issues.

Nina Paddu, DO, a primary care physician at the center, stated, "You don’t have to manage your weight alone. Whether you have serious health concerns and want a professional opinion, or if you just want some support on lifestyle changes, we have multiple options for your weight management needs."

Matthew A. Weissman, MD, MBA, FAAP, Chair of the Department of Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center highlighted the importance of addressing obesity: "At a time when almost 50% of the US population is projected to be diagnosed with obesity by 2030, there have never been more ways of successfully addressing it — whether through lifestyle changes, medication, or surgical intervention." He emphasized that Maimonides aims to make it easier for Brooklyn residents to access necessary help.

Alexander Abdurakhmanov, MD, Director of Bariatric Surgery at Maimonides, discussed the safety and effectiveness of bariatric surgery: "Bariatric surgery is so safe and so effective. These operations have become as safe as having your appendix or gallbladder removed. It’s more dangerous to live with obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes." He added that patients are often pleased with their results and wish they had undergone surgery sooner.

The Maimonides Weight Management Center has been recognized for its exceptional surgical outcomes by the ASMBS and has maintained its status as a Comprehensive Center for over ten years. Newsweek named Maimonides Medical Center one of the Best Weight Loss Centers of 2024. Furthermore, it has been acknowledged as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
