Damian Woetzel, President | The Juilliard School
In November, President Damian Woetzel shared the news that Alicia Graf Mack will be stepping down from her role as dean and director of the Dance Division at Juilliard. Graf Mack, who was recruited by Woetzel in 2018, is set to become the next artistic director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater after commencement.
During her time at Juilliard, Graf Mack broadened the dance program's curriculum by incorporating elements such as West African dance and increasing opportunities for creative practice. Her appointment at Ailey marks a return to familiar grounds, as she previously served as a principal dancer with the company. This transition is seen as both a homecoming and recognition of her leadership skills. She will succeed Robert Battle (BFA ’94, dance) in this new role.
The search for Graf Mack's successor at Juilliard has begun. Woetzel stated that they are "looking to extend the hallowed legacy of achievement in dance at Juilliard."
