WSSW Writing Consultant Tom Ribitzky has announced the release of his latest book, "The Seduction of Pessimism in the Novel: Eros, Failure, and the Quarrel with Philosophy," published by Lexington Books in 2024.

The book delves into how novels serve as a response to the Platonic myth concerning an inherent rift within human existence. It discusses how eros is often portrayed as a remedy for this divide but is instead expressed through themes of unfulfilled desires, psychological struggles, and existential dread throughout literary history. This theme is traced from medieval romances to works by authors such as Goethe, Brontë, Proust, Mann, Woolf, Lawrence, and Nabokov.
