Adriano Espaillat, a U.S. Congressman representing New York's 13th district, shared a series of tweets on November 25 and 26, 2024, in observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Espaillat highlighted the ongoing issue of violence against women and commemorated historical figures who have been victims of such violence.

On November 25, Espaillat tweeted about the global prevalence of violence against women and girls as a human rights violation. He stated: "La violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas es la forma más frecuente de violación de los derechos humanos en todo el mundo." He emphasized solidarity with victims and survivors on this day dedicated to eliminating violence against women.

Later that day, he posted another tweet honoring Patria, Minerva, Maria Teresa Mirabal, and their driver Rufino de la Cruz. They were assassinated by Rafael Trujillo's authoritarian regime in the Dominican Republic. Espaillat wrote: "On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we will never forget the selfless sacrifice, dedication, and bravery of Patria, Minerva, Maria Teresa Mirabal and their driver Rufino de la Cruz..."

In a subsequent tweet on November 26 in Spanish, Espaillat reiterated his message from earlier in English. He paid tribute to the same individuals while marking this international day against gender-based violence: "En este Día Internacional de la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer..."
