In August, St. John’s University in Queens, NY, welcomed new international students from various countries. These students have traveled significant distances to join the university community. A survey conducted among them revealed that nearly all are eager to make new friends during their first year.
Virginia Fuertes Lloret from Spain speaks both Spanish and English. She is keen on meeting people and participating in campus clubs. When not attending classes, she can be found on the track and field team.
Keagan Ragoobar hails from Trinidad and Tobago and is excited about exploring New York City while studying actuarial science as a first-year student.
María José Peñuela Arrieta from Colombia also speaks Spanish and English. As a first-year student, she aims to make friends and gain knowledge.
Lucie McLeod is an exchange student from Australian Catholic University in Melbourne. Studying secondary education for one semester, she hopes to enjoy the campus environment while making new acquaintances.
Brian Magoma from Kenya is pursuing an M.B.A. at The Peter J. Tobin College of Business. He remarked on the noticeable red around campus and described New York City as beautiful yet bustling with people.
Isha Tachhekar comes from Nepal, speaking Nepali, Hindu, and English. She holds the Insurance Leader of the Year Fellowship while working towards an M.S. in Risk Management and Risk Analytics.
