A recent IEEE conference at the Katz School of Science and Health brought together researchers and industry professionals to discuss advancements in digital data processing technologies. The event took place at the Yeshiva University Museum in New York City on September 30 and October 1.

Dr. Ping Ji, chair of computer science at CUNY, delivered a keynote address titled “Drilling Down Under the Surface of the Internet.” Dr. Ji's presentation highlighted the complexities of internet architecture and its implications for security, privacy, and ethics in today's digital world. She emphasized that understanding these intricate layers is crucial for addressing cybersecurity issues.

“The conference fostered cross-disciplinary collaboration and served as a platform for exchanging ideas, making it clear that the future of digital data processing is rich with potential for innovation and that deep technical understanding is key to unlocking it,” said Dr. Honggang Wang, general chair of the conference and chair of the Katz School’s Computer Science and Engineering Department.

The event featured discussions on various topics including data management, machine learning, cloud computing, and business analytics. In addition to Dr. Ji's keynote, 20 research papers were presented covering AI-powered systems, neural network-based data processing, and medical applications of machine learning.

Another highlight was a keynote by Dr. Nirwan Ansari from the New Jersey Institute of Technology titled “Metaverse is Taking Off? Part 2.” Dr. Ansari discussed technological trends influencing the metaverse since 2023, noting its growing impact across industries such as education, healthcare, and commerce.

“These trends suggest that the metaverse is steadily becoming more integrated into various aspects of daily life," said Dr. Ansari.

The conference also emphasized artificial intelligence applications as noted by Dr. Youshan Zhang: “I am very excited about the AI techniques presented at the conference.”
