A new ranking based directly on student feedback gives high praise to St. John’s University. According to The Princeton Review's annual survey of students and administrators, St. John’s is featured in "The Best 390 Colleges: 2025 Edition," appearing on the list of Best Northeast schools and as one of the nation’s more environmentally responsible colleges. The Guide to Green Colleges highlights schools with exceptional programs, policies, and practices related to sustainability and the environment.

“St. John’s is proud to once again be included in the Princeton Review’s Best in the Northeast,” said Samantha R. Wright, Chief Enrollment Officer. “Rankings are one part of our comprehensive efforts to continue the strong awareness and reputational brand of St. John’s.”

“The colleges we profile in our book are truly a select group: they constitute about 15 percent of America’s four-year institutions,” said Rob Franek, Editor-in-Chief at The Princeton Review and author of "The Best 390 Colleges." “We chose them primarily based on our high opinion of their academic offerings.”

According to The Princeton Review, rankings that focus on academics are based on institutional data and college administrators’ opinions of peer schools. The Princeton Review's Best Colleges rankings are in multiple categories and based solely on the company’s surveys of students attending the schools. The survey asks them to rate their colleges on dozens of topics and report on their experiences.

For the 50 ranking lists in "The Best 390 Colleges," The Princeton Review tallied surveys from 168,000 students—about 430 per school on average. The surveys were conducted during the 2023–24 academic year and/or the previous two academic years.
