Gov. Kathy Hochul, the Governor of New York, has taken a proactive step in encouraging high school seniors to take advantage of financial aid opportunities for their higher education. As part of Financial Aid Awareness Month, Governor Hochul announced the distribution of letters to high school seniors, providing them with valuable tips and resources to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

In a statement, Gov. Hochul emphasized, “Far too often, New York students don’t realize the full scope of financial aid that is available to them to help cover the cost of higher education.” This initiative aims to ensure that every senior student has the necessary resources to access financial aid and support their educational endeavors.

Acknowledging Governor Hochul's efforts, CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez expressed appreciation, stating, “We greatly appreciate Gov. Hochul’s proactive and personalized actions to raise awareness of the importance of FAFSA completion this year.” The collaboration between the Governor's office, educational institutions, and community organizations underscores a collective commitment to supporting students in accessing financial aid opportunities.

Highlighting the significance of completing the FAFSA, SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. noted, “Gov. Hochul is fighting to ensure New York’s high school seniors complete the FAFSA application.” This push for FAFSA completion is crucial, especially considering that last year, New York's high school students left over $200 million in federal aid unclaimed by not filling out the form.

Similarly, Higher Education Services Corporation President Dr. Guillermo Linares expressed gratitude to Gov. Hochul for emphasizing the importance of FAFSA completion in unlocking access to higher education for students. Efforts to raise awareness and provide support for completing financial aid applications can significantly impact the futures of thousands of students across New York State.

The ongoing initiatives by Governor Hochul and various educational institutions aim to increase FAFSA completion rates and ensure that students have the necessary resources to pursue higher education. By empowering students with information and support, the state of New York is working towards a future where financial aid opportunities are accessible to all who seek to further their education.
