Juilliard Dance Division is set to present the annual Spring Dances 2024 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater from March 27 through March 30. This year's performances will feature works by renowned choreographers Kyle Abraham, Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, and Shen Wei, showcasing the talent of Juilliard dancers from the classes of 2024-2026.
Alicia Graf Mack, the Dean and Director of the Dance Division at Juilliard, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming performances, stating, "My mission during this time of transformation and growth is for our students to leave excited about stepping into the field knowing they are well versed in a range of repertory and techniques."
The program will open with Kyle Abraham's "Studies on a Farewell," featuring music by Beethoven, Nico Muhly, and an arrangement by Sebastian Bartmann. Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber will present "Fugue in Crimson," a contemporary dance theater piece exploring the connections between music and movement. Shen Wei's "Map" will close the program, accompanied by live music from the Juilliard Orchestra.
Regarding the collaboration among Juilliard's students, Mack highlighted the challenges presented by the works, stating, "Spring Dances 2024 brings works that are challenging both physically and mentally, requiring endurance, stamina, focus, and collaboration. I know our students are up to this challenge."
The performances will feature live music and a collaboration with Juilliard alums, music, and drama students. The event aims to showcase the talent and versatility of Juilliard's dancers and the collaborative spirit within the artistic community.
