Juilliard Announces Five New Faculty Members for the 2024-25 Academic Year

Juilliard recently revealed the appointment of five new faculty members for the upcoming academic year. The new additions include Valerie Coleman and Nina C. Young in the composition faculty, Zlatomir Fung and Zvi Plesser in the cello faculty, and Kevin Puts as a distinguished visiting faculty in composition. Additionally, Coleman and Plesser will also join the chamber music faculty.

Speaking on the new appointments, Adam Meyer, Juilliard’s provost, expressed his excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to have these exceptional artists joining our community. Each has led a distinguished musical career and will contribute to Juilliard’s artistic and educational core in very meaningful ways. We look forward to welcoming them to our faculty.”

Valerie Coleman, a Grammy-nominated composer with an impressive list of accolades, including being the Preparatory Division’s artist in residence in 2021–22 and the director of the Woodwind Quintet Workshop at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, shared her enthusiasm about joining Juilliard's faculty.

Zlatomir Fung, the youngest cellist to win first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, brings a wealth of experience to the cello faculty. Fung has performed with prestigious orchestras globally and studied at Juilliard with renowned faculty members.

Zvi Plesser, an Israeli cellist with a rich history of performances with orchestras around the world, expressed his excitement about joining Juilliard's faculty. Plesser's experience as a chamber musician and educator will be valuable additions to the institution.

Kevin Puts, a Pulitzer and Grammy-winning composer, is set to enrich Juilliard's composition faculty with his acclaimed works that have been performed by renowned organizations worldwide. Puts brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the institution.

Nina C. Young, co-artistic director of Ensemble Échappé, will also be joining Juilliard's composition faculty, bringing with her a diverse portfolio of works that have been performed by prestigious orchestras and ensembles.

The new faculty members will officially begin their roles at Juilliard in the 2024–25 academic year, contributing their expertise and talent to the renowned institution's artistic and educational mission.
