Members of different faiths gathered at St. John’s University in Queens, NY, for an Interfaith Dialogue and Dinner, focusing on the theme "What Does It Mean to Be Human?" The event, sponsored by the University’s Interfaith Council and Division of Student Success, aimed to find common ground among various religious perspectives.

During the discussion, panelists emphasized the unity found in respecting the integrity of the human person. Mordechai Kraft, representing Jewish theology, highlighted the obligation to reflect God's compassionate and kind nature in interactions with others. Meghan J. Clark, speaking from a Catholic perspective, emphasized the universal love of God for all individuals, leading to the imperative to love one's neighbors.

Janae, a Journalism student and Christian pastor's daughter, emphasized the imperfection of humanity and the importance of striving to love oneself and others, drawing inspiration from the teachings of Jesus. Mohammed, a Muslim Pharmacy student, shared a touching story of faith and resilience within his community, underscoring the need for unity and support across different faith traditions.

Prabhdheer Singh highlighted Sikhism's emphasis on justice, prosperity, and respect for all individuals, urging people to take action against persecution and injustice, regardless of faith. The dialogue also touched upon the significance of the concurrent observances of Ramadan, Passover, and Lent, providing a unique opportunity for learning and understanding across traditions.

Reflecting on the challenges of religiously based conflicts in the world, panelists stressed the power of human potential in overcoming adversity. Rabbi Kraft encouraged individuals to recognize their capacity to make a difference through acts of kindness and support in daily interactions. Mohammed drew inspiration from the resilience of faith communities in conflict zones, emphasizing the strength found in collective prayer and perseverance.

The event, attended by members of various student associations, aimed to foster a respectful and cooperative environment for individuals of all religious backgrounds to share and practice their faiths. The dialogue highlighted the importance of recognizing shared humanity and promoting unity amidst diversity.
