Kings County schools welcomed 246,607 students in 2021-22 school year

Kings County enrolled 246,607 students in the 2021-22 school year, according to the New York State Education Department.

It had the second highest enrollment numbers in the state.

The number of students in the halls of Kings County schools fell by 5.4% compared to the year before.

In the 2021-22 school year, 51.8% of students were boys, and 47.6% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Kings county students was Hispanic, accounting for 30.1% of the student population.

Within Kings County, Brooklyn Technical High School had the highest enrollment numbers in the school year, welcoming 5,962 students.

In 2022, New York had roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is lower than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
