NEW YORK, NY – On June 30, 2023, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement regarding the latest Supreme Court rulings decided this week. 

"I am deeply disheartened by the latest slate of rulings from this far-right, extreme Supreme Court that seeks to roll back decades of progress we have made as a nation," said Rep. Espaillat. "To deny service to anyone based on who they love is an affront to our American values and a bigoted violation of the basic rights we all deserve simply because we are human. 

"Additionally, the denial of student loan debt forgiveness will automatically set millions of American borrowers on a path toward financial spiral and on the precipice of default.

"And last, but certainly not the least of these, is this MAGA Court’s decision to eliminate affirmative action from college admissions—a decision that will be detrimental to students of color and will reverberate across all facets of our lives. Racism still exists and disparities based on race are still present in the national admissions process. This is not a thing of the past, and ending affirmative action only further entrenches racial inequality in education—period.

"These rulings are setbacks, and we must fight to ensure that the actions we take today will create a stronger, more equal and just society for future generations.
