On March 28, 2025, Espaillat highlighted the critical importance of Medicaid for numerous residents in his district. He stated that "Para más de 500,000 de mis constituyentes, el Medicaid no es un desperdicio: es esencial. Donald Trump y Elon Musk están intentado arrebatárselo." This reflects his stance against efforts by Donald Trump and Elon Musk to undermine the program.

Two days later, on March 30, 2025, Espaillat commented on the significance of food assistance programs. He noted that "Food stamps support local economies, boosting grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and retailers. Nearly 300K in my district rely on them." Espaillat criticized attempts to cut food assistance, stating they constitute "an attack on working families, seniors, and future generations." The message shared his objection against actions by Trump and Musk.

On the same day, March 30, Espaillat reiterated his concern in Spanish, underscoring the local economic support provided by food coupons. He described how these support "Los cupones de alimentos apoyan las economías locales, impulsando supermercados, mercados agrícolas y comercios minoristas. Casi 300,000 personas en mi distrito dependen de ellos." This statement echoed and emphasized the implications of proposed cuts for his district's residents.
