Rep. Nydia Velázquez has voiced her concerns on Twitter regarding various political issues, particularly focusing on economic policies and human rights. Velázquez, who has been representing New York's 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 1993, brought attention to policies affecting her constituents and the broader American populace.

On April 9, 2025, Velázquez criticized the impact of Trump's tariffs, highlighting how they are "raising prices and crushing the economy" while condemning House Republicans for their response. She noted that House Republicans are attempting to "take away Congress's ability to stop this madness," emphasizing that "a vote for this rule = a vote for Trump's tariffs."

The next day, April 10, 2025, Velázquez shared a personal story about Jennifer Vasquez Sura and her husband, Kilmar Abrego García, a lawful U.S. resident. She reported that García, a "father and union worker," was removed from his family and sent to a prison camp in El Salvador without "criminal record," "hearing," or "proof." Velázquez declared, "We're fighting to bring him back."

Later on April 10, 2025, Velázquez responded to actions taken by Republicans regarding Medicaid. She criticized Republicans' enthusiastic response as they paved the way for "the largest Medicaid cuts in history" with the aim of "cutting taxes for billionaires," which she labeled as "Disgraceful."

Velázquez was born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, in 1953 and has been an influential political figure in New York since succeeding Stephen Solarz. She resides in Brooklyn and holds a BA from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, class of 1974.
