Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) has announced several notable developments from its various departments. Among the highlights, four faculty members from the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S) and one from the Mailman School of Public Health have been honored as fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. This recognition is given for significant contributions to science by the world's largest multidisciplinary scientific society.
In another significant initiative, for the third consecutive year, students from CUIMC have participated in creating free assistive devices for children with disabilities in the local community. This effort is part of the Modifications and Assistive Technology course led by Rochelle Mendonca. Students work directly with the community to produce tailor-made, cost-effective devices designed to enhance the quality of life for these children.
Amid rising national concern about measles, a CUIMC pediatrician and vaccine expert has provided insights into the risks associated with the disease and preventative measures families can take.
Furthermore, CUIMC is offering an opportunity for volunteers to participate in the Commencement Week scheduled for May 20-22, 2025. Volunteers are needed to assist with guest services, graduate support, and event information across several ceremonies.
Additionally, a gastroenterologist from CUIMC, affiliated with the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, is sharing valuable advice on preparing for a colonoscopy, particularly how to make the experience as straightforward as possible.
CUIMC celebrates the efforts of their physicians, acknowledging their dedication to exceptional patient care. A special message has been shared by ColumbiaDoctors CEO, Dr. James McKiernan, recognizing their contributions.
