In a series of recent tweets, Rep. Ritchie Torres, serving in the U.S. Congress as the representative for New York’s 15th district since 2021, addresses several pressing issues from national security to socioeconomic conditions in New York and environmental justice in The Bronx. Entered into the congressional office in 2021, succeeding José E. Serrano, Torres continues to voice his concerns on social media, maintaining his connection with the constituents of The Bronx, where he currently resides.
On March 27, 2025, Torres made a pointed comment on national security, critiquing the current Defense Secretary and National Security Advisor. He expressed his view that neither has been held accountable for what he considers significant breaches. In his tweet, he stated, "The Defense Secretary endangers national defense and the National Security Advisor endangers national security. Yet neither one of these breaches is seen as a firing offense by the former host of the Celebrity Apprentice."
The following day, on March 28, 2025, Rep. Torres turned his attention to socioeconomic disparity within New York. He highlighted the challenges faced by nonprofit human services workers with modest salaries. His tweet declared, "In New York State, nonprofit human services workers earn an average salary of just $36,588 a year. After covering basic expenses like rent and utilities, many are left with as little as $20 a day to survive. That’s not a living wage -- it’s a death sentence for a decent life."
Later on the same day, Torres addressed environmental issues affecting The Bronx. He criticized former President Donald Trump for threatening local financial support through the Environmental Protection Agency. Torres resolved publicly to oppose these actions, as stated in his tweet, “The Bronx has long been ground zero for environmental injustice, and Donald Trump is seeking to set us back by terminating millions of dollars in crucial EPA grants across the borough. We will not let this stand."
