The Sacks-Herenstein Center at Yeshiva University has opened submissions for the 2025 Rabbi Sacks Book Prize. This prize, established in 2022, honors the legacy of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks by acknowledging recent non-fiction works that contribute to contemporary Jewish thought. Rabbi Sacks was a firm believer in the impact of writing and this award aims to celebrate his scholarly contributions to addressing significant issues through Jewish values and texts.
The prize targets books that are either recently published or soon to be published, with content deeply rooted in Jewish texts and having broad appeal both within and outside the Jewish community. An academic committee, collaborating with Rabbi Sacks Legacy, will judge the entries. The winning author will receive $10,000 while two finalists will each get $2,500. Winners will also be featured on the Sacks Book Prize podcast and participate in public lectures organized by the Sacks-Herenstein Center.
To qualify for submission, manuscripts must have a 2025 copyright and must be nominated by a recognized publishing house before May 1, 2025.
Previous recipients of this award include Dr. Daniel Matt for "Becoming Elijah" (Yale), Dr. Daniel Gordis for "Impossible Takes Longer" (Ecco), and Gila Fine for "The Madwoman in the Rabbi's Attic: Rereading the Women of the Talmud" (Koren).
