St. John's University was well represented at the Eastern Economic Association Conference held in midtown Manhattan from February 21-23, 2025. The university's delegation included four students and five faculty members who participated prominently in the event.
The Eastern Economic Association is a not-for-profit organization focused on promoting educational and scholarly exchange on economic matters. It encourages freedom of research and discussion through its annual conference and the publication of the Eastern Economic Journal.
Among the student participants, Samit Alam, a junior majoring in Risk Management from Cumilla, Bangladesh, shared his experience: “Presenting at the EEA Conference pushed me out of my comfort zone. Seeing my research spark discussions reminded me why I chase knowledge—this is just the beginning.”
John Gaynor, a senior Business Analytics major from Maspeth, Queens, also found value in presenting his work: “The EEA Conference was an extremely valuable experience; in that I was able to present my research and get feedback that I’ve considered moving forward with my work.”
Laia Barro, a Business Analytics junior from the Philippines, reflected on her participation: "My conference experience was impactful for my professional and educational journey. It was enjoyable, and I felt supported by St. John's faculty and peers."
The event provided a platform for these students to engage with their peers and receive constructive feedback on their research projects.
