Hakeem Jeffries, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district, recently voiced his opposition to a Republican spending bill through a series of tweets. Jeffries has been serving in Congress since 2013 after succeeding Edolphus Towns and has a background in law with degrees from Binghamton University and New York University.
On March 14, 2025, Jeffries expressed strong disapproval of the Republican spending bill. He stated, "We strongly oppose the partisan and harmful Republican spending bill."
Later that day, he reiterated his stance by affirming his issues with the bill, stating, "Yes, we have a problem with the partisan House Republican spending bill."
In another tweet on March 16, 2025, Jeffries criticized far-right extremists regarding Medicaid policies. He wrote: "Far right extremists are okay destroying Medicaid for 'Black people in the ghetto.' Just as long as they are not their voters. These are sick people."
