St. John's Episcopal Hospital has announced a partnership with Plaza College for its Nurse Residency Program. This collaboration aims to develop new nurses and enhance the future of healthcare.
Denise Potts, Assistant Vice President of Professional Practice at St. John's, stated, "In the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare, the need for well-prepared, competent, and confident nurses has never been greater. Our partnership with Plaza College bridges the gap between academic preparation and professional practice, strengthening the future of nursing and investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals."
Plaza College nursing students will complete clinical rotations at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. This hands-on experience allows students to immerse themselves in the hospital's culture and patient care standards. The college will also be represented on the hospital's Nurse Residency Program Advisory Board.
The collaboration provides a recruitment pipeline to the Nurse Residency Program, ensuring a smooth transition from student to professional nurse. Donald T. Morrish, CEO of Episcopal Health Services, emphasized their commitment by saying, “Our partnership with Plaza College reflects our commitment to developing a skilled and compassionate workforce.”
Chad Callahan, Provost of Plaza College, expressed pride in this partnership: “Plaza is very proud to be partnered with St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.” He highlighted that it prepares nurses for specialties such as critical care and mental health while allowing students to learn from diverse patient backgrounds.
The faculty from Plaza College will offer insights into residents' academic preparation to refine orientation processes at St. John's. Keisha-Ann Wisdom, Senior Vice President of Patient Services & Chief Nursing Officer at EHS said this initiative "keeps us closely connected to the academic environment" and inspires veteran nurses as mentors.
This partnership between St. John’s Episcopal Hospital and Plaza College seeks to build a resilient nursing workforce ready for modern healthcare challenges.
