Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine has issued a statement reflecting on the anniversary of the October 7th attacks. He expressed that the day remains deeply traumatic for New York City, particularly within the Jewish community. Levine noted that many people feel closely connected to those who were brutally murdered on that day, emphasizing that "we are all only a degree or two away from someone" affected by the tragedy.
Levine highlighted the familiarity with the names and faces of hostages, including 101 individuals still in captivity, likening them to family members. He addressed concerns about how "the barbarity of October 7th" is being downplayed and denied amidst a troubling rise in antisemitism in New York City.
The borough president reaffirmed a commitment to remembering those lost and continuing efforts to ensure safety for both the Jewish community and all people. He stated, "We will never forget the horrors of that day, we will never stop mourning those we lost, and we will never stop fighting to make this world safer."
