On January 13, 2025, Dr. Mary Beth Morrissey delivered a presentation on trauma and vicarious trauma at the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) New York City Chapter's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee's Continuing Legal Education Program. Her participation was prompted by an invitation from Annie Wang, a Senior Attorney at the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund.

The program addressed various issues including cultural trauma, PTSD and burnout, perspectives on well-being, management of secondary trauma, and the effects of immigration policy changes on practitioners in the field. Dr. Morrissey's presentation incorporated insights from her pilot study on vicarious trauma among social workers and attorneys in immigrant services. This research was conducted with contributions from WSSW student co-researchers Francesca Acocella, Dinorah Briceno Reolon, and Jeovani Mata. Additionally, she discussed her interdisciplinary work that combines law, social work, and psychology to explore practices of accompaniment in immigrant services.
