St. John’s University recently held its annual Spring Student Activities Fair on January 27, providing students with a glimpse of the extracurricular opportunities available on the Queens, NY campus. The event took place at Taffner Field House, where students enjoyed music and sweet treats while exploring various activities and organizations for the spring semester.
Jennie Vosilla, a Master of Science student in Business Analytics at The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, represented the Center for Student Success. She emphasized the importance of introducing first-year students to college life through events such as game nights and tutoring options. Jennie stated that the activities fair is crucial for helping students thrive within the St. John’s community.
The fair featured a wide range of student-run organizations, including those focused on religious-based service, community service, performing arts, and science. The diversity of interests was evident with numerous fraternities, sororities, and professional organizations present.
Among these was the Sikh Student Association, which aims to preserve the cultural identity of Sikhs by teaching members their language and promoting cultural events. "We created this club as a space for those on campus who are in the Sikh community," said Poonampreet Kaur, a junior Biology student and founder of the organization.
Community spirit was a recurring theme at the fair. Ramesa Anan and Reian Daniels, fifth-year Pharmacy students at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, represented the American College of Clinical Pharmacy's student chapter. They advised fellow students to engage in multiple organizations during their time at university because “time flies.”
“Take advantage of any opportunity that presents itself,” Reian encouraged attendees. “Time goes zooming by. Take risks joining organizations you might not think you will like as you can end up finding yourself and new passions.”
