Adriano Espaillat, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York's 13th district, shared his thoughts on social media about Dominican history and American identity. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, Espaillat has been serving in Congress since 2017 after replacing Charles Rangel. He has also served in the New York State Assembly and Senate.

On January 24, 2025, Espaillat paid tribute to an influential figure in Dominican history. "Hoy reconocemos a Juan Pablo Duarte, el más destacado de los padres fundadores de la República Dominicana y un revolucionario que nunca perdió la visión de la libertad."

In another post on the same day, he addressed the concept of American identity succinctly: "If you're born in America, you're American. Period."

He reiterated this statement in Spanish shortly thereafter: "Si naciste en Estados Unidos, eres estadounidense. Punto."
